Location is just south of the University/hospitals on 13th St. so its very convenient to get to any time of day.
The shop is filled with Middle Eastern/Persian/Egyptian/Indian (and more) foods and spices that cannot be found anywhere else in the area. Students I know from out of town find this to be a welcome place to find foods from home.
Well this is a good place to find some oriental items you can't find in other places, especially since there are imports so there are so many things from back home. I do like the falafel sandwiches they sell too.
There is a nice little cafe hidden in this marketplace. I like to come here for the dates and nuts! I always have a good experience coming here.
Hands down the best restaurant/shop in Gainesville. The food is made to order with fresh ingredients, the home made touch makes for an impressive, low cost, healthy alternative lunch than any place in the area. And the home made hummus is simply a taste of heaven.
Zeezenia's kitchen features authentic Egyptian cuisine that is delicious and reasonably priced. The market has a staggering assortment of foods from the middle east and especially wide selection of feta or white cheese and different kinds of filo-and nut pastry such as baklava. The best part: it is family-run with the kids helping out and everyone is friendly and takes an interest in you.
However what's sometimes upsetting is that some items just run out and they don't get more of those. Plus some items are unreasonably pricy.
If you haven't been here and are in the area, just go to look around and I am willing to bet you will not just walk out feeling good, but also feeling that there is no question that you are a welcome friend.
This place is a gem. Great for lunch. Wonderful prices on grocery items. Cheap baklava and fantastic rice pudding. The nicest owner and employees. They really care about their restaurant and grocery store and it shows.
And as far as the service - Outstanding is putting it mildly. Everyone smiles and greets you as if you are an old friend, making just walking in for a container of home made hummus alone a great, friendly experience, that again, just is not found in the area.
