Honestly, If I could give no stars, I would. Extremely insensitive to what one says, literally laughs at what you're saying to him, makes you question your own reality, and gets you in and out with a new prescription without even asking enough questions. I left and went somewhere else, turns out the things he prescribed for me weren't accurate and caused more harm than good. Don't waste your time, please.
This dude is awful. He charged me $30 for a doctor's note when I needed it to medically withdraw from school. A PIECE OF PAPER. The only reason I went to him is because he took my insurance and was available at the time. I also agreed with previous statement that he doesn't take time to get to the root of the problem. He just wants to prescribe you something like it's candy. He doesn't take into consideration of the effects or ramifications of giving a person drugs. It feels like he takes advantage of people's trust in a Doctor, "who knows what's best and is educated". If you want care and attention to detail, which I believe is the most important skill of a psychiatrist, since they are prescribing powerful drugs, he's not the one to provide a dependable service. Even talking to him during a session he's texting and writing constantly, and literally has no empathy in his voice when he speaks. Probably just sees dollar signs on your head and a timer when he can cash it in. 100% ignorant of a patients ability to handle stress. Like we're all suppose to just get up and move on from events like it was yesterday. F this dude
Dr. Adu is a great Dr. and has always listened to me and helped me get my life back on track. I have such a better quality of life now and I have a much different outlook on life as a whole. Only negative I can think of is the parking area is almost nonexistent so if you don't have an early morning appointment then expect to have trouble finding a spot to park.
I've only seen him three times now, but he seems to be pretty great and way more helpful than any of the psychiatrists I've seen at shands / uf. He's not a psychologist or therapist... he's your psych. He writes you prescriptions based on what he thinks you could benefit from. He actually suggested I get a therapist and when I decide on one, wants to have an open line of communication with them, which I think is above ans beyond. Since I haven't found one yet, the past two sessions (after initial first visit), he has offered me great advice, and even given me "assignments" and books / articles he wants me to read before returning. The main nurse is also amazing, such a sweet and happy person... I actually like going here. Four stars only because the other lady in the front is a little harsh and kept insisting that I would be charged and needed to pay right then for my visit when I called to set up the appointment, and when I called to ask where exactly to park, so that was a little off putting. Dr. Adu does have a very thick accent and is not totally americanized in the sense that he wont baby you, but he was concerned with my meds, who was prescribing and for how long etc, and did an in depth evaluation before writing me any scripts. Will continue to see him as long as I'm in Gainesville, for sure.
Dr. Adu is an awesome intellagent Dr. Very compassionate compant dr.m
